Yamunotri Temple

Yamunotri Temple is a holy temple located in the state of Uttarakhand. This holy temple is devoted to Goddess Yamuna. Goddess Yamuna God is the daughter of the sun and the sister of Yamraaj (God of death). It is one of the four holy dhams of Uttarakhand state. The first pilgrimage in the four dhams starts with this holy shrine. Yamunotri temple was constructed by Maharaja Pratap Shah of Tehri Garhwal in the year 1919. This temple was rebuilt in the 19th century by the "Maharani Gularia" of Jaipur. This holy temple is located at an altitude of about 3292 meters from the sea level. The Yamunotri temple opens on the auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya and closes on the second day after the Deepawali festival. Every year lakhs of devotees come to darshan this holy Yamunotri temple. The holy Yamuna river flows near the Yamunotri temple. According to the Vedas, the Goddess Yamuna is known as named of Yami (lady of life). It is believed that after bathing in the holy water of the river Yamuna, all sin committed by man is destroyed. The Yamunotri temple attracts pilgrims. After darshan the temple, pilgrims get a different enjoyment. To reach Yamunotri temple, about 7 km trek from Janki Chatti or horse and doli are hired.

The recognition of Yamunotri Dham is that Goddess Sandhya, the sun was not able to tolerate the heat. After that Yama made a statue named "Chhaya" and gave it to the place. One day Yama tried to hit the Chhaya with his leg, then the angry "Chhaya" cursed Yama that your foot would fall one day. When the goddess Yamuna came to earth on hearing this, she made austerity to free her brother Yama from the curse of Chhaya and freed them from the curse. Seeing this, Yama happened pleased and asked the Yamuna to demand the boon. The Yamuna demanded the safe water of the rivers as a boon from her brother Yama, by which is no death due to lack of drinking water and he can achieve salvation. Hence the mountain near the place of Yamunotri is named after Lord Sun, Also called 'Kalinda'. The recognition of the water of the river Yamuna is that from the Yamunotri Dham, by spraying the collected water of the river Yamuna in the home, liberation from Vastu defects is attained. It is also said that whoever bath in the water of the Yamuna, that Akal is free from the fear of death and receives liberation. The statue of the black marble of Goddess Yamuna is established in the main sanctum of the temple. In this temple, the worship of Yamunotri Ji is done with the whole method.



Surya Kund

Surya Kund is a hot water source located in Yamunotri, which is near the holy Yamunotri temple. This kund is considered to be the kund of the Sun God. Pilgrims potatoes and rice bind in a cloth, then dip it in the kund and cook, later the cooked rice and potatoes are taken home as prasad. The water of this kund is so hot that potatoes and rice are cooked easily. Surrounded by snow-covered hills, this hot kund has a religious significance. This Kund is a center of attraction in Yamunotri.



Divya Shila

Divya Shila is a rock pillar located in Yamunotri. This Shila is near the Yamunotri temple. Located on an altitude of about 3000 meters above sea level, this rock pillar is the center of attraction, next to the Surya Kund. This place is visited by devotees before entering the temple. According to religious rituals, devotees have to worship and darshan this Divya Shila before entering the holy Yamunotri temple.



Saptarishi Kund

The Saptarishi Kund has located about 10 km from the Yamunotri temple. The Saptarishi kund is located near the Champasar glacier located in the upper part of the Bandarpoonch mountain. This kund is about 4422 meters above sea level. It is believed that the seven great sage Kashyap, Atri, Bhardwaj, Vishwamitra, Gautam, Jamdagni and Vashishta had performed penance in this Kund in the ancient period, hence this Kund is known as Saptarishi Kund. The water of this kund is dark blue in color, the water of the nearby glacier is gathered in this kund. In the valley around this kund, the holy Brahma Kamal flowers are also found. This is an ideal place for trekking lovers. The trek of the Saptarishi kund is considered difficult because its route is covered with snow and passes through a dense forest and rugged hills terrain.
