Nanda Devi Temple in Almora, Uttarakhand

Nanda Devi Temple is a famous ancient temple situated in Almora, which is above Mall Road in the center of Almora. This is one of the most famous and sacred temples of Kumaon region. This famous temple is dedicated to Goddess Nanda (Durga). This famous temple was built by the 11th Century Chand dynasty because Maa Nanda Devi was the aggregate goddess of the Chand dynasty. The artwork made of stone on the walls of this temple increases the beauty of this temple. The idol of Nanda Devi is a magnificent temple surrounded by the stone crown and a wooden roof. The fair of Nanda Devi is organized every year on the Ashtami (Nanda Ashtami) of Bhadra Mas (August month). The history of this famous ancient temple is believed to be more than 1000 years old. During the winter season, the weather of here is cold. Due to snowfall on the surrounding hills in the winter season, the temperature of here goes down very much. Due to heavy rains in the rainy season, it is a bit difficult to travel of here because of heavy rains threatening landslides.
