Overview

Chandrabadni Devi Temple is one of the Shakti Peethas of Goddess Sati is the holy religious temple. This holy temple is located at a height of about 8,000 feet on Chandrakut mountain, which is about 33 km from Devprayag. Adi Guru Shankaracharya had established Shaktipeeth here. This Siddha Peeth is described in detail in Skanda Purana, Devi Bhagwat and Mahabharata. According to legend, once the goddess Sati's father Raja Daksh organized a grand yajna, in which he had invited all deities, except Lord Shiva. The yajna had the place of all the gods except Lord Shiva. Seeing this insult of Lord Shiva, Goddess Sati jumped into the yajna kund. Upon hearing the news of jumping in the yajna of Goddess Sati, Lord Shiva happened indignantly and cut off the head of King Daksh. Lord Shiva, while mourning, kept the body of Sati on the shoulder and began Taandav. All the gods began to urge Lord Vishnu to calm Lord Shiva. After that Lord Shiva raised the body of Goddess Sati on the shoulder and rotated in all four directions, During this, Lord Vishnu had split the body of Sati into 51 parts with his Sudarshan Chakra, where-where the Sati's limbs part fell, those places became Shaktipeeth. It is believed that the carcass Badan (Body) of Sati fell on Chandrakut mountain, hence here the name of "Chandrabadni" kept. In the temple premises, the Brahmins residing in Pujar village only worship the temple. It is believed that the due to falling on this place of Sati's Badan (Body) part, there is cannot any of darshan the statue of the Goddess. The Temple's priest also on the eyes bandage by bind and after that, the mother has a bath to Chandrabadni.

Chandrabadni Devi temple is about 33 km from Devprayag. A small 1 km trek from the road to reach the temple.

Best Time To Visit :-


The best time to visit Chandrabadni Devi Temple is between the months of September to May. Travelling here in these months is the best and enjoyable. During the winter season, the weather of here is cold. Due to snowfall on the surrounding hills in the winter season, the temperature of here goes down very much. Due to heavy rains in the rainy season, it is a bit difficult to travel of here because of heavy rains threatening landslides.
