Gaurikund is a famous place located in Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand state. Gaurikund is situated on the banks of the holy Mandakini river. Gaurikund is about 5 km away from Sonprayag, which is at a height of about 1985 from the sea level. Gaurikund has historically existing since ancient times.

The distance of Kedarnath Temple from here is 14 km, which can be decided by foot or horse. From this place, the path starts for Kedarnath. According to Hindu mythology, it is believed that this place is where Goddess Parvati had meditated and penance to get Lord Shiva as a husband for a hundred years. History and Mythology :-

Gauri Kund is associated with lord Shiva's wife, Devi Parvati, who is often referred to as Gauri in different parts of India. In Hindu mythology, Gauri committed herself to penance that included many ascetic and yoga-based practices to win Shiva's love. According to local legend, Gauri Kund was the place in which Gauri lived during her time performing the rituals, and it was in this place that Shiva proposed to her for a wedding, and they were wedding in Triyugi Narayan, which is close to Triyugi Narayan. The place is also linked to the legend that tells of the way Ganesha obtained the head of an elephant. It is referred to for its name, "Parvati Sarovar" since it is where goddess Parvati was able to acquire Ganesha, her child. Ganesha.

  • Sonprayag:- It is situated at the confluence of two sacred rivers, Mandakini and the Vasuki river. It is situated along the path that leads to Kedarnath Temple.

The journey of Gaurikund can be done throughout the year, but the best time to visit here is between the months of September to November and March to Jun. Travelling here in these months is the best and enjoyable.

During the winter season, the weather of here is cold. Due to snowfall on the surrounding hills in the winter season, the temperature of here goes down very much. Due to the cold weather of winter, woollen clothing is required here.

Due to heavy rains in the rainy season, it is a bit difficult to travel of here because of heavy rains threatening landslides. The temperature of here between from 3°C to 10°C in the winter season and the temperature in the summer season is between 15°C to 25°C.
