Munsiyari is a small town on the banks of the river Kali in Pithoragarh district, Uttarakhand. It is situated at an altitude of 2,246 meters and is surrounded by dense forests and snow-clad mountain peaks. Munsiyari was given to the place because it means "Named after a minister's daughter."

The Birthi Waterfall in Munsiyari feeds into the Kali River and is 25 kilometres from here. It has been formed due to natural erosion by water flow over centuries. The place also has a temple dedicated to Shiva, built 500 years ago, with many steps leading up to it.

The height of the Waterfall is 125 meters, and its width is 10 meters wide, with an average discharge rate of 400 cubic meters per second, which makes Birthi Waterfall Asia's third-highest Waterfall.

Birthi Waterfall Munsiyari is a waterfall in the Munsiyari town of Pithoragarh District in Uttarakhand. It is situated on the banks of River Kali.

It can be found in the Corbett National Park, which has been declared a tiger reserve. The river originates from the Garhwal Himalayas and meets with two other major rivers – the Ramganga and Tons – after travelling for about 100 kilometres.

Once, it was believed that a dip in this holy river could wash away all sins and sorrows, but now it is just a tributary with clean water to enjoy. Tourists come to this area to see the landscape's scenic beauty while taking their leisurely strolls along the riverbanks.

This Waterfall is a beautiful natural phenomenon. It's been created due to the constant flow of water from the rainwater and snow runoff running down the hills and rocks over many years. The Waterfall gets its name because of three ponds near its base that look like a woman giving birth to triplets.

There are two ways to reach Waterfall – by road or trekking from Munsiyari town for about two hours.

Best Time To Visit:


The journey of Birthi Waterfall can be done throughout the year, but the best time to visit here is between the months of October to May. Travelling here in these months is the best and enjoyable. During the winter season, the weather of here is cold. Due to snowfall on the surrounding hills in the winter season, the temperature of here goes down very much. Due to heavy rains in the rainy season, it is a bit difficult to travel of here because of heavy rains threatening landslides.
