Kalinga War Memorial is located in Dehradun of Uttarakhand state. This memorial is situated on Sahastradhara Road, about 5 km from Dehradun town. This memorial was built by the British in honour of Gorkha soldiers after the war of 1814-16. In the year 1814, the Anglo-Gorkha war between the Gorkha soldiers and the British army was fought. According to historical facts, the Gorkhas soldiers of Nepal attacked the Garhwal region and captured Kalinga fort in Nalapani, then the British army waged war with them and finally defeated them. During the war, Gorkha soldiers protected more than six weeks of Kalinga fort of Nalapani without water and eating food. Seeing this bravery of the Gorkha soldiers, the British built this monument in their his honour.
